Day 8: Coastal Sweden
Lunch and Hamlet's Castle
We headed out after breakfast. It was about 8:20 when the bus departed our little village on Ærø Island. We took the ferry back across to the main island and then drove across to the other side of the island where we had lunch in Helsingor, right next to the castle where Shakespeare had his play Hamlet set. We ate in the huge food court. There was even a fun spinner that you could use to decide where to have lunch. We walked over to the castle, and then it was time to take the short ferry ride across the channel to the sister town. Together, these two towns formed a fortification and security for entrance by waterway. It was fun to walk around in the setting of a Shakespeare play! |
Varberg
Once on the other side, we hit the road again and drove to the small town of Varberg. Our hotel was very unique. It was totally decorated in a communist theme with books and posters everywhere. It felt a bit like walking back in time.
After checking in, we had a short orientation walk as a group. Pam and I then went and looked at the fortification along the coast. It was a beautiful evening for a walk through the quaint little town.
